February 2010

This month we were excited to begin our new adventure with the Atelier Art Program.
For our composer study we watched a video on different musical instruments
and how they work.

The Atelier project was tearing paper to make penguins.

They tore....

February Meeting

We will be meeting February 12th. We are excited to announce that we were able to get the Atelier Art program that we have been wanting for a long time. Lisa found the program on DVD for $5.00 at the Co-Op curriculum sale.

So in February we will begin our first Atelier art lesson. The kids will watch the video and we will supervise the art lesson. Lisa W will be doing the composer lesson on instruments.

Also all our meetings this year will be on the 2nd Friday of the month. (Except April, which will be cancelled.)

January Meeting Cancelled

We had to cancel our meeting for January due to weather.

Little Hands September 2009- Bach and Matisse

Our composer study for this month was Johann Sebastian Bach. We learned that he
was from Germany, lived in the Baroque period and listened to his Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

We also added hand prints to our tye dyed
shirts. (Which we did in August ).

Our artist for this month was Matisse. We learned about his "Drawing with Scissors"
I showed pictures of his Snail collage. We then made portfolios. We had each child bring in
2 pieces of poster board which we stapled together on three sides. Then we had them decorate the fronts with paper pieces they made, or punched.
This will allow for a large hole at the top where they can slide in their artwork.
These portfolios are ideal to keep under the bed.

They did a really good job on these.

Tye Dye Turn Out

Here are some pictures of our shirts. I was excited today to start the rinse process.
I had to rinse for quite a while to get all the color out. (You are supposed to rinse until the water is clear.) Anyway the next post goes into the process.

The most important thing is that the kids got to make them, which makes them really awesome.
Here is Lexi's shirt.

Here is Peyton's.

Here is mine. (The pink spots were supposed to be star bursts.) It is the only one like this because I wanted to try it, before letting the kids do it. I think I should have allowed for more white in the midst of the pink.

Little Hands Fall Kickoff - Tye Dying Adventure

Today was our fall kickoff. We decided to make our club T-shirts. These will be great to wear out as a group, or just to our monthly meetings, any paint etc. that happens to get on them will only add to the masterpieces!

(I purchased one of the bright tye dye kits when Walmart had them on sale for $10.00I looked the other day and they were $20.00. It says it will make 16 shirts but it would really make a whole lot more. We made well over 20 today.

Here are some pictures of the fun.

We placed the shirts in a plastic bag and sent them home.

At Home Instructions:
Wait 24 hours, then rinse the shirts with cold water. Cut off the rubber bands, then continue to rinse until the water runs clear. Wash in washing machine (with tye dye stuff only) with a little laundry soap, then dry in the dryer.

It is best to wash them by themselves the first couple of times.

Also, don't forget to bring them back next month. We will be adding our hand prints to them.

I also posted our semester schedule on the side bar, so you can remember what month you signed up for what. (We still have spaces available for those that missed the meeting or may join our group during the semester.) Please email me to let me know what you would like to do.
